The original bid was awarded to an Idaho company earlier this spring, but had to be re-bid when the contractor failed to perform. Since then, the bid went up over $50,000 because of the busy summer season for contractors. And also, the original contractor never surveyed the job, so the first bid was much lower. Once this second bid goes through, the cleanup should take about 4 to 6 weeks.
“It just kind of sat in limbo to the point where NRCS couldn`t get a hold of anybody, so then we decided to just reject all of those bids and they just recently put it out for bid again and now we have a responsive bidder and they`re basically waiting on us for the ready,” said Jason Sorenson, assistant public works director.
The new bid price is just $217,350 and the local share of the cost will come out to $54,337.50.
