Upside to the Oil Boom? | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 9/4/2012

A new survey from the University of North Dakota says that 60 percent of northwest North Dakota residents say they are pleased economically with the oil boom. Minot residents say they see both the positives and negatives associated to the boom.

People notice the construction of hotels and banks to keep up with the growing area. Businesses are also benefiting from the boom. With more people moving to the Magic City, there are more mouths to feed, which is helpful to the grocery stores.

"I`m not against it, it has it`s good points and it has it`s bad points. As a general rule, it`s good for our area," said resident Bee Saunders.

"From a business standpoint, it`s great. Business is on the way up and things are good. Right now, just have to try and take care of our customers," said Marketplace director Brian Vangsness.

Although the boom welcomes many new faces, the local residents and business owners agree increased traffic is a problem.
