Amy Fox | 9/7/2012

Many times when disaster strikes, children don`t have much say in the rebuilding and recovery process. Today, kids throughout Minot had a unique opportunity to reflect on the 2011 flood.

Bright colored stars filled the gym of Longfellow Elementary School.

Stars of Hope is a project that brings color into the lives of children living in communities affected by natural disasters.

"Generally speaking, it`s just really unique. The way these kids because it comes from their mind and their hearts and what they want to put on there,” said Stars of Hope Project Director Patrick Samuels. "And, generally, it’s something that they’re also trying to share with their community. It`s their voice and their chance to say to their community how they feel and like I said most of the time its help us, hope rebuild-things of that nature."

Children also painted stars at Oak Park today. All of the stars will be put on display throughout Minot`s flood zone tomorrow.
