Cropping in on Pumpkins | Video

Amy Fox | 9/14/2012

The warm and dry weather conditions destroyed crops all throughout North Dakota this summer, but the drought was good for one crop: pumpkins. While pumpkins typically thrive in warm and dry conditions, they still need some rain to survive.

With the help of some rain showers early in the season, some farmers in Minot were able to save their crop.

"We had to water them a few times, but we had some timely rains that also helped too in the beginning process of when they were growing. But, yeah, other than that, we`ve just been keeping them watered every once and awhile,” said Ashley Berry, Berry Acres Part Owner.

At Berry Acres, they`ve grown around 30,000 pumpkins this year. And the work doesn`t stop there. They still have half a field left to pick.
