2013 City Budget Concerns | Video

Rene Thibault | 9/18/2012

The Minot City Council has approved it`s budget for the 2013 year.

This new budget is one of the highest in Minot`s history at $168 Million Dollars. The budget includes numerous new staff positions, including police officers and fire officials. Unfortunately, it also includes a tax increase of about nineteen percent.

Some of the City`s alderman are concerned that the tax increases could be the final push for some residents who have been thinking about leaving the city, “I’m a little concerned about the rent factors, its on everybody`s lips, what people are getting for rents right now, it`s squeezing the little guy. Whether they can afford it or not, I`m concerned about the senior citizens, who are on a fixed income. You know, start throwing more taxes into their income, and it`s going to push them over the edge”, stated Milton Miller, and Alderman from the 4th Ward.

While taxes are set to increase, home values would remain the same.
