Erase your E-waste | Video

Dumping your electronics into the landfill can be dangerous. This weekend the city of Williston is letting people recycle old electronics at the Western Star Barn.

"It leaves more space in the landfill. Recycling is just a way better way to go then throwing it in the landfill," said Williston Recycling Coordinator Patty Fiorenza.

If you donate your old electronics here they are dispossessed of properly. If you don`t it could land up in the landfill which could have some potentially dangerous side effects.

"There`s lead in the computers, and that should not be going into the landfill," added Fiorenza.

Lead can sink into the soil, and can affect a number of things, including water. Some old electronics do make it to the landfill, but it can only hold so many.

"For one the landfill can only accept house hold quantities of electronics, so if you have a home and you have one or two computers and you want to get rid of them that`s all we can put in the landfill," Fiorenza added.

After you drop of your electronics, they are disposed of properly.

"This is going to go to Unicore and Unicore will take it and break it all down. They`ll take what they can recycle, and the rest they will get rid of," said Fiorenza.

There is also one other reason to drop off your old electronics.

"And it`s free," added Fiorenza.

They will be open from 10:00 to 2:00 tomorrow.
