Absentee Voting Starts This Week | Video

Jessica Roose | 9/24/2012

The November election isn`t too far away and it`s even closer for those who want to vote absentee or by mail. Absentee voting starts on Thursday, and Secretary of State Al Jaeger says it`s not too late to sign up to receive a ballot.

He says there are several benefits to voting absentee, including being able to take your time and vote at home. He estimates that 30 percent of voters will cast their ballots before election day.

"The presidential cycle for turnout is always higher. It`s usually roughly about 60-65 percent of the off presidential cycle. Unfortunately we don`t hit those particular numbers."

For more information or to sign up for an absentee ballot, go to the Secretary of State`s website at nd.gov/sos.
