Prescription Drug Take Back

This weekend, people will be collecting old and outdated prescription drugs on the four reservations in North Dakota. The program, called Indian Country Take Back Initiative will take place on Saturday, September 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The free and anonymous program is designed to get old, expired and unused medications out of homes and destroyed.

"Abuse of prescription medications is an epidemic in tribal communities in North Dakota. One way abusers get access to prescription medications is by stealing old and unused drugs from the medicine cabinets of family and friends," said U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon. "I`m hopeful residents of tribal communities will join in this effort to give back these old and unused prescription medications in order to help cut off this source of supply and help protect their community."

The program is an effort between the North Dakota U.S. Attorney`s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services.

Spirit Lake Reservation:
Fort Totten Police Department, DTI Building, Fort Totten, ND

Standing Rock Reservation:
Red Gym in Cannon Ball Housing, Cannon Ball, ND
Community Building, Red Hawk Tail Avenue, Fort Yates, ND

Turtle Mountain Reservation:
Turtle Mountain Law Enforcement Center, Belcourt, ND
