Belcourt Man Pleads Guilty to Assault

A Belcourt man pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court Tuesday to assault charges. Felix E. Wallette Jr., 40, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault by striking, beating, or wounding and a charge of domestic assault by a habitual offender. In September of last year, Wallette was in a vehicle with the victim when an argument occurred.

Wallette assaulted the victim, who sought medical treatment. At the time of the assault, he had also been convicted for two other domestic violence offenses.

The assault charge carries a maximum penalty of six months in federal prison and a $5,000 fine. The charge of
domestic assault by a habitual offender has a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

Wallette will be sentenced on December 20.
