Department of Justice Grants | Video

Retha Colclasure | 10/1/2012

The U.S. Department of Justice is giving more than 200 grants totaling more than $101 million to American Indian and Alaska Native nations. More than two million of that is coming to North Dakota.

Three tribes in the state will use the money to improve public safety on the reservation.

"There`s no single grant that`s going to be a silver bullet to solve public safety issues in Indian Country but resources like this really help supplement some of the hard work the US Attorney`s Office and the tribes themselves have been doing over the last couple years to get a handle on this issue," said U.S. Attorney for North Dakota Tim Purdon.

The money will go towards improving tribal courts, police forces, and combating violence against women.
