Democrats Behind in Poll | Video

Jessica Roose | 10/10/2012

The poll results we`ve been releasing over the last few days haven`t been such good news for Democrats in the state. The Democratic candidates running for U.S House, Governor, State Treasurer, Auditor and Insurance Commissioner are all falling behind their opponents in the race.

University of Mary political science professor Mark Springer says the campaigns will need to try and catch up by putting more resources into commercials and debates to get their opinions to the voters. Which he said can be hard to do this late in the game.

Another challenge is that many of the Republicans running are incumbents in the races.

"That incumbency advantage is difficult to overcome because you already have organization, you already have a policy or an issue that you can stand on what you`ve done as that person and then the fundraising is easy to come by," Springer said.

So far the only partisan race where a republican isn`t winning is the race for U.S Senate between Heidi Heitkamp against Rick Berg. The two are currently tied, each with 47-percent of the vote.
