Year of Faith | Video

Jessica Roose | 10/11/2012

It`s an important day for Catholics. Fifty years ago today the bells rang at Saint Peters Square in Rome to mark the opening of the Second Vatican Council. Today, bells rang all over the state to commemorate the event and mark the beginning of the Year of Faith.

Bishop David Kagan of the Bismarck Catholic Diocese hopes the event will bring Catholics together in their faith.

"It`s a great way to appreciate better the universality of the Catholic Church and the fact that there is a great unity amid equally great diversity among the members of the Catholic Church."

Students at Cathedral Elementary in Bismarck rang bells outside for three minutes to honor the start of the Year of Faith. The Year of Faith will conclude on November 24, 2013.
