Phone Training For Seniors | Video

Jerame Novak | 10/11/2012

These days, cellphones are practically an extension of young people, but seniors are often puzzled by them. Representatives from AT&T were at the Golden Age Senior Center in Mandan to give seniors one-on-one training on how to use their phones.

Seniors had the opportunity to bring their phones in, no matter the carrier, and get their questions answered.

"Seniors, very often, have cell phones. In the past, they were traditionally used for safety purposes; family members gave them to them for Christmas or for birthdays with the idea being that it`s a safety factor. But increasingly, we`re finding that it was really more like everybody else, it`s a lifestyle issue. It`s something that they realize is a tool that can be enjoyed.," said AT&T spokesman Tom Hopkins.

"I thought it was wonderful. I had no idea how to use this thing and I didn`t use it to its capacity anyway. And now they showed me everything, I`m really happy with it," said participant Carol Barahana.

Hopkins says they worked with about 40 seniors today.
