Panelists also said it was important to be realistic when developing an energy plan.
"We`re at a crossroads. We have the ability to move forward with wise choices, wise energy policy, or we can repeat the mistakes of the past. In particular we could repeat the mistakes of the carter administration. Where they raised taxes on the industry, reduced production, increased imports and then poured the money down the drain on things that didn`t work," said John Felmy with the American Petroleum Institute.
