Nonprofit organizations like United Way need financial donations to stay running. United Way held its annual fundraiser breakfast Sunday at St. Mary`s Central High School. About 500 people turned out for pancakes and sausages. The Missouri Slope Area United Way works with 33 charities in Bismarck and Mandan. All the money raised at the breakfast goes to help those organizations.

This year United Way has set a hefty goal: To raise two million dollars to give back to the community.

"United Way works with the elderly, with children, with families, with homeless, people with special needs. We help everyone in the community, but the real power of United Way is helping to coordinate services and arrive at solutions so that we stop the cycle of poverty," said executive director Jena Gullo.

This year United Way is also celebrating its 125 anniversary serving communities worldwide.
