| 10/15/2012

Officials broke ground today for the new city of Minnewaukan. The city is being relocated to higher ground to protect it from the rising waters from Devils Lake. The city received $4.8 million from FEMA to relocate 18 buildings and buy out an additional 96 buildings. The city also received $3.8 million from the state for infrastructure costs.

"The people of Minnewaukan have shown tremendous perseverance and ingenuity in their efforts to preserve their community, and this funding will help to secure it for many years to come," North Dakota`s Congressional delegation and Governor Dalrymple said in a joint statement.
