Three Men Ordered to Pay Restitution in Scrap Metal Scam

Valley News Live | 10/16/2012

Three Bosnian refugees from Fargo have been ordered to pay more than $64,000 in restitution for selling fake catalytic converters to recycling companies in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Authorities say the bogus auto equipment had been imported from china and did not contain the precious metals typically found in catalytic converters.

The three men were arrested in South Dakota in February. They pleaded no contest to a felony charge for selling the fake converters there.

Each was fined $2,000, given credit for time served and put on unsupervised probation.
