Saving an Old Courthouse

Retha Colclasure | 10/17/2012

A group trying to save a building in McLean County is making another attempt to stop demolition of the building, by asking a judge to get involved. The McLean County Heritage Preservation Foundation filed a legal complaint on October 11 against the McLean County Board of Commissioners to stop the demolition of the courthouse in Washburn.

The courthouse was built in the early 1900s, but hasn`t been used for several years, after courthouse workers complained that bat droppings in the building were making them sick. Voters approved a new building two years ago.

The preservation group already lost a battle with county commissioners to save the building.
