FEMA Reaches Milestone | Video

FEMA is marking a milestone today. Last July, there were more 2,000 FEMA trailers in Ward County. Now, that number has been cut in half. FEMA reports there are now less than 1,000 units being occupied throughout Ward County.

While many people are re-building and moving back into their once flooded homes. With the housing shortage, some are having to stay in the temporary units for a longer period of time.

"People here are very resilient, and in most cases it`s folks getting back into their homes certainly as everyone is aware of housing is at a premium here and that`s one of the reasons why we still have about 1,000 people in, but we continue to move forward,” said FEMA spokesman Brian Hvinden.

Starting in January, FEMA tenants will begin paying rent for their trailers.
