Travel Alert Issued for High Winds | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 10/18/2012

If you`ve been outside lately, you know that the winds are still blowing strong. The North Dakota Department of Transportation issued a travel alert today due to the high wind conditions.

The strong winds may cause difficulty driving especially for high profile vehicles. While trucks hauling more weight may work to their advantage, carrying less could cause some problems.

"When you get a tall van and it`s empty they`re gonna have to watch what they are doing, cause that`s when the gust affects them the most. Flatbed drivers, gravel trailers are a little lower profile, they`re more steady then a camper would be behind a pickup, so they don`t have to worry about it as much. They`re just gonna feel the push from the wind, whereas a van trailer may feel the push and it may lift and lift the van trailer over," said Westlie Truck Center salesperson Bob Miller.

All motorists are encouraged to reduce your speed and use caution while on the roadways.
