The same company that wants to build the Keystone XL oil pipeline is being forced to shut down down an existing one. According to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, TransCanada Corp. has shut down its existing 2,100-mile Keystone pipeline after tests showed possible safety issues.
The pipeline ships about a half million barrels of oil per day from Alberta, Canada to facilities in Illinois and Oklahoma.
The shutdown is temporary.
