St. Michael Man Sentenced for Involuntary Manslaughter

A St. Michael man will serve prison time on Involuntary Manslaughter charges for crashing into another vehicle, killing another man, after a night of drinking. Douglas Baker, 24, was sentenced to three years` imprisonment with credit for 12 months served in Tribal custody.

Baker pleaded guilty to the charges in July. In September of last year, Baker was driving on a two-lane road near St. Michael at a high speed at around 7:20 in the morning when he went into the oncoming lane and hit another vehicle head-on. Dana Grow, from Grand Forks, was driving the other vehicle and was killed.

According to law enforcement, Baker`s blood alcohol level was .210.

In addition to prison, Baker will also have to pay over $23,000 in restitution and a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim`s Fund.
