ND Man Ordered to Pay $168,00 in Fines for Selling Fake Bonds in MT

| 10/24/2012

A North Dakota man will have to pay over $160,000 for selling fake surety bonds in Montana. Montana Insurance Commissioner Monica J. Lindeen ordered Dennis Lyon, aka Chief Joe Blue Eyes, from New Town, ND, to pay $168,000 in fines and restitution for selling the bonds on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.

Lyon received nearly $150,000 from the Gros Ventre and Assiniboine Tribes in 2010 for surety bonds. It turns out Lyon was not licensed to sell bonds in Montana and sold them through an unregistered corporation.
