Airport Getting Ready for United and Delta | Video

Before United and Delta could arrive in Williston, the airport first had to pass an Environmental Assessment, saying the additional planes would not cause environmental impact to the area. This morning, airport officials got the news they were waiting for.

"I just heard today that the environmental assessment is being approved, so we should have everything signed and done by Monday”, Said Airport Manager Steven Kjergaard.

That means the only changes that need to be made are to the interior of the main terminal. There`s already limited space inside, so for the time being, Delta and United will be sharing a desk.

"The only reason we`ll be doing this is because the ground crews; the people that will check people in, the people that marshal airplanes in and out and move baggage, they`re actually the same company”, Said Kjergaard.

But the desk might not be as necessary as it was for Great Lakes Flights in the past. Each airline will have two self check-in kiosks, allowing people to check in without waiting in line.

"You can check in if you don`t have any bags, you can go directly to them and have your boarding pass printed off, go directly to security, and never actually have to talk to anyone."

The airport is also in the process of adding a modular waiting area off the back side of the building, which will increase available seating from 40, to roughly 120.
