Fire Safety Education | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 10/26/2012

North Dakota is slightly above the national average when it comes to fire-related deaths but the Minot Fire Department is taking action by educating children about fire safety.

The fire department just completed their annual school visitations for fire prevention week where the fire crews discuss the stop, drop, and roll method along with learning how to operate the smoke detectors. But the only way to be up to date on fire safety is to practice.

"But if you don`t practice it, everybody forgets the details of it and if you don`t practice it then you practice to fail," said city fire marshall Edward Hausauer.

Hausauer says they tailor each fire safety lesson depending on the age group.
