Habitat for Humanity - Bismarck Chapter Dissolves | Video

Joel Porter | 10/27/2012

They`ve helped to build homes for families in need all around the country, but Habitat for Humanity no longer has an agency in Bismarck. According to city leaders, the chapter was unable to continue operations in the Capital City.

Habitat formed in Bismarck in 1995. Since then, the group and volunteers have built nearly 20 homes in both Bismarck and Mandan.

Earlier this week, city commissioners voted to reallocate $55,000 in HOME grant funding from Habitat to Burleigh County Housing to build special needs housing.

"I know that the city probably contributed with grant money to about six or seven of those projects. And you get to know the families, you get to know what the difference is, so it was really disheartening to see this happen," Bismarck city planner Sue Redman said.

The latest Habitat project was in the works at a vacant lot at 1012 east Avenue C in Bismarck. Habitat`s former Board of Directors President says she resigned more than four months ago.
