Political Mail Stacking Up | Video

Amy Fox | 11/1/2012

With five days to go until the general election, political candidates are sending out postcards and fliers via the U.S. Postal Service, in hopes of getting that one last vote. But, how effective is that method?

As you reach into your mailbox, you can`t help but notice all of the political postcards and fliers. With everyone in Minot on the mailing lists, the United States Postal Service is trying to keep up with the increase.

“It`s difficult for them to case in the morning because it has to be manually cased and it`s a lot of heavy mail for them every day and of course, it`s extra," said USPA Delivery Supervisor Lew Gates.

But, some believe the extra mail during election season is a complete waste of time.

“We got a lot of them in the mail. I never really look at them. At least I think it`s kind of a waste. I think there`s a lot better ways they can put that money to advertise than sending out paper mail,” said Minot resident Tyler Berg.

Once USPS finishes up with election season, Gates says they`ll have about one week to catch up before the holiday season starts.
