Treats for Troops | Video

The Souris Valley Dental Group held it`s annual Treats for Troops event Thursday. The candy buy-back project is aimed at benefiting both the soldiers serving abroad, and to help Minot`s young people protect their oral health.

Kids are encouraged to bring in a portion of their candy and art work to be sent overseas. The dental group paid a dollar for every pound of candy brought in by a youngster. And they are proud to help support healthy teeth and those serving the country.

“It`s not only to promote dental health, good treats, bad treats, but also to give the troops something that says somebody over here is thinking of them," said Terrie Ames of the Souris Valley Dental Group.

Sugar consumption for kids around the world increases by two percent every year, and currently sits at 50 million tons per year.
