Winter Weather Outlook | Video

More snow could be on the way in many places. Fortunately, the worst is over for now. However, travel conditions always get worse when the sun disappears and the roads turn to ice. Since this morning, anywhere from half an inch to two inches of snow has been measured in central and western North Dakota. And with winter fast approaching, everyone is wondering if we will see a repeat of last year`s dry spell.

Last winter was exceptionally mild with below average snowfall. Many areas received less than 20 inches of snow last year, making it one of the driest winters on record. But this year is expected to be different..

"People are wondering, `Are we going to have another non-winter this year?` Odds certainly don`t favor that," said KFYR-TV Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lawrence.

The official government forecast issued by NOAA says North Dakota should expect a warmer than average winter, with normal precipitation.

"I do agree with the official NOAA weather forecast, calling for slightly warmer temperatures. The key here is North Dakota is situated right in between what I`m calling a battleground state for the weather this winter," Lawrence said.

So if the forecast holds true, that means we shouldn`t see anything out of the ordinary.
