It was standing room only tonight Heidi Heitkamp showed up to thank voters in Bismarck for their support during the campaign.

Heitkamp was filled with emotion as she walked into the room and greeted hundreds of the supporters.

She let them know she will remember all they did when she heads to D.C.

Heitkamp defeated her opponent, current U.S. Representative Rick Berg, by just three-thousand votes.

"This race was very close from the beginning, always within the margin of error. We always were certain we could win it if we ran just a perfect campaign. You know that was our goal, is to every day get up and convince people that I really wanted to work for North Dakota, that I really had the skill sets that would best represent North Dakota," she said.

She also made stops in Fargo and Grand Forks.
