Hit and Runs | Video

Amy Fox | 11/9/2012

With more people moving into Minot, hit and run accidents are happening more often, especially during the winter months. In 2012, there have already been 585 reported hit and run accidents, with 10 of them involving injuries.

Hit and runs can happen along city streets, in parking lots and at private residences. Drivers will often take off because they are driving under the influence, without insurance, or a suspended license.

But, leaving the scene is not only a traffic violation, but a criminal offense.

"Leaving a scene of an accident can very widely,” said Minot Police Senior Officer Aaron Moss. “It can be something as simple as a traffic ticket for not giving immediate notice of a reputable crash on up to a felony level where someone who is injured or killed are more common. We`ll see misdemeanor violations of leaving the scene."

If you are involved in a hit and run accident, you need to call 911.
