Ward County Man Arrested for Internet Luring | Video

Rene Thibault | 11/16/2012

A Ward County man has been arrested for allegedly Luring a Minor over the internet. The sheriff`s department`s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit made the arrest last night around 7:00 on the east side of Minot.

Sergeant Mark Holter conducted an investigation where he posed as a 14 year old female in several on-line chat rooms. Timothy Anderson, 32, of Surrey agreed to meet Holter, thinking he was a teenage girl. When Anderson arrived at the meeting place, he found two Ward County Sheriff`s Deputies waiting for him.

Law Enforcement officials say its important to act first in situations like this.

“Well it`s very important in this situation, as with many in law enforcement, to be as proactive as possible. So you capture those people, you put a stop to their activity, before you have a victim involved in a case. You know that there are young people online, who are gullible who are going to be drawn in by those adults, we`d like to talk to them first and discourage them from having contact with a youth,” said Captain Barnard.

Luring a Minor is a Class B felony, which can carry a $10,000 fine, or up to ten years in jail.
