"Let this word go out to head shops and anybody whose thinking about selling these in business places or out of homes or for anywhere else we have people who are monitoring, agents, law enforcement is watching what is happening," he said.
Yesterday his office issued a cease and desist order against Hemp Horizonz, operating in two locations in Minot.
"As well as the head shops in other parts of the state including Minot and confirmed sales that`s why we ordered the cease and desist knowing that these sales were going on," said Stenehjem.
In an undercover operation, law enforcement went into Hemp Horizonz where they then were sold multiple packets of synthetic drugs. Upon the sale the employee told the officer that the products tasted good, even though the label says "not for human consumption."
"And so it really is a market of contradiction of the stated claim that these aren`t for human consumption. We all knew that was a fraud and dishonest statement that people are actually taking these substances, ingesting them, in order to get what they thought was a legal high," said Stenehjem.
Management of Hemp Horizonz originally agreed to talk with us on camera, but once they were served the cease and desist order, they refused to comment on the matter.
Officials say they`ve been getting tips from all over the state about shops selling synthetic drugs.
Stenehjem encourages anyone with information about on going sales to call the BCI tip lone, toll free at 800-472-2185.
