Darkhouse Spearfishing Opens December 1

North Dakota`s darkhouse spearfishing season opens next month. Anglers will be able to fish northern pike and nongame species through March 15. Residents who have a valid fishing license or who are under 16 are eligible. Nonresidents can participate only if they are from states that offer the same privilege to North Dakota residents.

People who want to participate must register with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department at gf.nd.gov.

You can go darkhouse spearing on all waters in the state that are open to hook and line fishing except:

- Braun Lake - Logan County

- East Park Lake, West Park Lake, Lake Audubon - McLean County

- Heckers Lake - Sheridan County

- McClusky Canal

- New Johns Lake - Burleigh County

- Red and Bois de Sioux rivers

- Red Willow Lake - Griggs County

- Sweet Briar Dam - Morton County
