In historic downtown Minot, there is a unique gift shop that`s been in business for 26 years, but the building it is in has been around for a lot longer. Home Sweet Home is a unique and cozy gift shop that offers a varity of products all inside an Victorian home.

"To my knowledge, it was built by a wealthy railroad from out east that was working on the railroad in Minot in the 1800s and it was modeled after an Edwardian-styled Victorian home," said owner Linda Johnson.

Johnson would travel to Minot just to wander though the shop and admire the Victorian charm, but she never thought she would end up owning it.

"I fell into it. I never has a dream or realized I would ever be a business owner in my life. It wasn`t even a goal. It just happened," she said.

Home Sweet Home has been in business for 26 years but the particular home was built in 1899 and holds a lot of history.

"I`ve met many many people through the years that have lived here at one time or another or have had happy memories of visiting their grandma that lived here," said Johnson.

Johnson says she wishes the walls could talk so they could share some of that history with her.

Home Sweet Home offers a variety of gift shop items such as home decor, gourmet food and specializes in North Dakota made products.
