New Town Remembers Shooting Victims | Video

Julie Leonardi | 11/19/2012

New Town comes together after Sunday’s tragedies to mourn the loss of four people. Members of the Tribal Business Council, North Segment Council Representative L. Ken Hall and New Town residents took a moment to remember the victims at a call to action and prayer service.

Individuals gathered at the Northern Lights Community Center for their annual Thanksgiving dinner. Because of Sunday`s events, the dinner morphed into a vigil to remember the victims of the tragedy.

Members of the Tribal Business Council spoke and asked for a moment of silence.

“When a tragedy happens like this, it kind of breaks something within a community, and this is a show of healing and unity bringing back what was broken,” said Reservation Chairman Tex Hall.

Carson Hood, a New Town resident, was happy to see the community come together, even though it was under terrible circumstances. “It’s unfortunate we have a tragedy happen on our reservation but it’s also a warm feeling [to see everyone here].”

The Tribal Business Council wanted to stress that the community is safe, and everyone should do their best to move forward.
