Dickinson Woman Arrested for Medical Benefit Scam

A Dickinson woman faces felony charges for running a false medical benefit scam. Cynthia Ell, 38, was arrested in Bismarck on Saturday. Dickinson police say she advertised a need for help from the community because of an illness. However, her claims were not true.

Ell is charged with Theft by Deception, a Class B felony.

Police say she raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations. Anyone who may have fallen victim to the scam is asked to call Dickinson police at 701-456-7751.

The case is still under investigation.
