Donít Buy It, Until We Try It: Boom Cube | VideoAmy Fox | 12/21/2012
They advertise the Boom Cube as a little speaker with big sound. It adds big sound to all your electronic devices, like an iPad or an iPhone. Not to mention, it clips on everything. But, does this product actually work? Well, Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It."
For Leah Lindquist, 6, she loves watching movies and playing games on her iPod.
"When I turn it up, I can`t always really hear it.Ē
So, we decided to put the Boom Cube to the test.
As Karlís TV, Appliance, and Furniture Assistant Manager Jayson Deknikker explains, "Most devices don`t have the loudest speakers because everything is so thin now. You can`t get a full-sized speaker in there."
We took the keychain speaker out of the box, plugged the cord into the iPod, and turned on the Boom Cube.
"Just the fact that the connectivity is just a little 3.3 mm head phone jack, so it will connect to about any audio device," said Deknikker.
Now, it was finally time to turn up the music. The sound is controlled by the volume on the iPod.
Deknikker said, "It was noticeably louder, so it did crank up the volume a little more, so you could hear it better."
"It was fun," said Lindquist.
Once the music was playing, we decided to clip it on a set of keys.
"You barely know it`s on your keychain," said Deknikker.
And, then, we clipped it onto a coat.
Lindquist said, "I didn`t even notice it was there."
After putting the Boom Cube through several tests, it was time to charge it up. So, we plugged the Boom Cube into the USB port on the computer.
"Itís pretty similar to any USB charged project,Ē said Deknikker. ďI`d say about for a half hour, you should be pretty well charged."
We charged the Boom Cube for about an hour. Now, itís ready to plug into our iPod again. It`s very compact and clips on easily. But, it doesnít have a very durable key ring, so you`ll want to use caution when clipping it on.
All in all, it`s exactly what they advertise on TV. So, this week`s "Don`t Buy It, Until We Try It" earns a thumbs up.
