Even during the winter, there is still a way to get those fresh flowers.

"Thirty-five years ago I bought it from a previous owner over a Coke and a piece of lemon pie," said Flower Box owner Nancy Larson Nidharidt.

The previous owner had a rough day at work and asked his friend Nancy to take over his business.

"Next thing I knew I was the owner of a flower shop," she said.

Although she did not have the experience of being a business owner, Nancy had a love for gardening and that really drove her flower business.

"I knew a lot of the flowers and that type of thing. And I`d spend time hanging around here watching them do designs and things like that, it wasn`t totally new to me but what was really new to me was the business aspect of it and that was just drop in your lap, earn as you go."

While she has learned a lot of new things in her business, one thing that has never changed is the customers.

"It`s a business where you have the opportunity to make a lot of people very happy and you get to meet people from all walks of life."

Although there are days at work that have some thorns, Nancy says, overall, owning Flower Box has been a blooming experience.

When she goes to market, Nancy brings flowers from Africa, Holland, Asia and South America into her shop.
