Fire Safety | Video

Jessica Roose | 12/25/2012
Firefighters want to remind people to stay safe while celebrating the holidays. They say there are often an increased number fire and carbon monoxide calls during the winter months since more people are spending time inside. It`s important to remember to keep candles away from holiday decorations and to keep an eye on the stove while cooking holiday meals.

Above all, they say to just be prepared and have a plan.

"Have an escape plan. Make sure everybody knows how to get out of the house. Practise your escape plan and if your having guests over for an extended period of time have them aware of your escape plan. Then have a meeting place that`s outside so you can have a count of everybody that was in the house at that time," said Bismarck Fire Marshal Ron Kunda.

He says you should also remember to check that your detectors are working.
