Hotel Planners Back Out | Video

Joel Porter | 1/7/2013

Plans to build a new hotel near the Bismarck Civic Center have fallen through. City leaders put out a request for proposals for a hotel along 5th street. City commissioner Parrell Grossman says both Ryan Companies of Minneapolis and Civic Center Lodging Development submitted plans.

However, after voters rejected the Civic Center Expansion Project in November, both parties withdrew their proposals.

"I think at this point, the city will let the dust settle and see what happens with our Civic Center, what our needs are moving forward, and then determine the viability of seeking another proposal," Grossman said

The city will also consider ending the lease of Optimum Fitness at 408 Bowen Avenue across the street from the Civic Center tomorrow. The gym has already closed.
