A Minot man is preparing to head to the White House next month to receive the Medal of Honor for his actions during a 13 hour firefight in Afghanistan.

It wasn`t too long ago when Clinton Romeshea was overseas, fighting for our country. "We weren`t going be beat that day. And, seeing all of those guys pull together, I mean, you are not going to back down in the face of adversity like that. We were just gonna win. Plain and simple. And with the help of those guys and everybody doing their part, we came out on top."

After the 13 hour firefight in Afghanistan, most of the soldiers walked away from the battlefield. Now, Romeshea is being recognized and honored for his courageous actions in the war with the Medal of Honor. "This isn`t something you wake up and think you are ever going to achieve," he said.

The military was something he always knew he was destined for. "My family came from a really rich military history. My grandfather has been my hero, pretty much all of my life. He has served in World War II. My father served in Vietnam."

With Army camouflage running through his veins, it was no surprise that even when he was injured in combat, he fought through. "When I got injured, it wasn`t nothing. I`ve had buddies that had lost eyesight, lost limbs, for them, I would rather give them all the credit. They deserve it for sacrificing so much and for me, it was nothing, really, I just got a little peppered, that was all."

While Romeshea closed one military chapter in his life, he`s excited to start the next chapter: being the husband and father he`s missed out on for the past 12 years. "So, I decided to leave to just be a little more, family orientated then I had in the past and be there and support them for all of the wonderful support over the last 12 years they`d given me."

Romeshea is still trying to process everything, while balancing work, family, and his trip to Washington. President Obama will be presenting Romeshea with the Medal of Honor on February 11.
