BPS Board Sets Boundaries & Names Schools | Video

Kristin Clouston | 1/28/2013

The Bismarck school board has finalized school boundaries and named the district`s three new schools. The new high school will be called Legacy, the school in Lincoln will be Lincoln Elementary, and the new elementary in northwest Bismarck will be known as Liberty.

Monday night`s school board meeting lasted just shy of four hours. One of the major concerns parents shared was turning Riverside into an alternative high school.

Superintendent Tamara Uselman says she plans on meeting with the school’s PTO and parents in the near future to share why the board took that route and listen to their concerns. "South Central needs a location and we know it`s a small program and it`s going into Riverside. We also know with having a small population we stood to lose federal title dollars, which would cut the principals job to part time and it would cut the counselors, it would cut out some of the support people that have worked with the families of Riverside."

People can put in for transfers on February 20, but priority will be given to those with special needs and kids who have had multiple transfers caused by the district.

The board also approved adding on to Sunrise and began the process for hiring contractors for that and the new schools.
