Abortion Bills | Video

Jessica Roose | 1/29/2013

Whenever the topic of abortion is brought up there`s no shortage of opinions.
Tuesday was no different as lawmakers started hearing a series of bills to ban it in the state.

One of the bills would ban abortion in the state.

The only exception being to prevent the death of the pregnant woman during a medical emergency.

Supporters of the bill say it is necessary to protect the rights of the unborn.

"It`s particularly troubling to deny these rights to those persons who do not have a way to speak for themselves. But rather rely on people in power to protect them," said Anna Higgins Director of the North Dakota Family Research Council.

Opponents of the bill say they are concerned with many parts of it including one section that would not allow embryos to be frozen for later possible use with in vitro fertilization.
