Livestock in the Cold | Video

Retha Colclasure | 2/1/2013

Cold weather can be hard on livestock, who need extra care to stay warm when they`re outside. Ranchers say, taking care of their animals in the cold is just part of doing their job in North Dakota. Feeding them high quality feed helps to ensure that they have enough calories to stay warm. And making sure they have a place to escape the wind is vital.

“It`s wind protection, plenty of feed, and just some bedding, something to lay in to get them out of the snow,” said Menoken rancher Andrew Ennen.

Animals are also affected by the wind chill, just like humans are.
