Guns In Bars | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 2/6/2013

Minot police are trying to crack down on people bringing guns into local bars. Just last night, officers responded to a bar in South Minot after getting a report of a man with a gun. Witnesses say Terry Hickman, 36, pulled out a gun and threatened them.

Shortly after, Hickman took off in a car, but was stopped by police officers. Hickman`s gun was confiscated and he was arrested for terrorizing, disorderly conduct, and driving while under the influence.

Officials said this is not the first time they`ve received reports of people bringing weapons into an establishment that serves liquor. Minot PD says it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon into a bar even if you have a concealed weapon permit.

"The purpose behind this is the fact that alcohol clouds your judgment. And, a weapon of any kind is dangerous. And, then you add alcohol and it`s just a bad situation," said Lt. Jason Sunbakken.

Bringing a weapon into a bar is a Class A misdemeanor.
