Preparing for College | Video

Kristin Clouston | 2/7/2013

Today the Superintendent of Public Instruction shared a plan that will help high school students be better prepared for college. Superintendent Kirsten Baelser says too many colleges have to offer remedial classes to freshmen so she`s staring two pilot projects that will align math and English programs between high school and higher education.

"We are anticipating that we will have the math department from Bismarck State College work with area teachers in the Bismarck-Mandan area and the English department from Valley City State University will work with high school teachers from that area."

Baesler says aligning the curriculum will reduce the cost of college education by removing the need for remedial classes. It will also allow students to be more successful their first year and more likely to graduate in four years.
