President Releases College Scorecard | Video

Kristin Clouston | 2/13/2013

Today President Obama released his College Scorecard, a program designed to compare universities, by giving them the most bang for their educational buck. Administrators say they support the idea but some of the numbers aren`t adding up. The scorecard lists United Tribes Technical College primarily as certificate granting school, when in fact it mostly offers associates degrees and some bachelor degree programs.

The system doesn`t recognize UTTC or Bismarck State College as two year colleges in its comparisons.

"When you go into IPEDS you find that we`re a public four year or above institution and the whole reason for that is because we have one bachelor degree, so all of our statistics get skewed a bit because we`re compared to four year institutions as compared to two year because we have one bachelors degree," said BSC President Dr. Larry Skogen.

The report is also only based on first year, first time students, so if a student transfers and graduates from another school, it doesn`t count towards either of their graduation rates.
