Legislative Forum | Video

Rene Thibault | 2/16/2013

Minot residents and city officials met this morning to discuss the latest legislative news. Around 50 people attended the Minot Chamber of Commerce’s Saturday Legislative Forum. They had the chance to get some one-on-one time with the area`s 12 legislators.

Today`s special guest was North Dakota`s Tax Commissioner Cory Fong. He was on hand to talk about possible changes for property, income and oil taxes. He says this session will be historic in terms of the state`s tax policy,

“This legislative session, I think, is historic from that standpoint. We have all these great things going on, but there`s also a lot of challenges the legislature is going to have to deal with. And, of course, a part of that is tax policy. Every session I say, ‘Oh this session, there`s no way we could be focusing anymore on tax policy.’ But this session for sure, I think without a doubt, is going to really set the course for the next decade or more in terms of tax policy.”

Minot`s next loegislative forum will be next Saturday. That meeting starts at 9:00 a.m.
