Businesses in Bismarck and Mandan are being awarded for their innovation and achievements. A Bismarck restaurant, Peacock Alley, beat out restaurants in Chicago, Dallas, New York and everywhere else to be recognized as the National Beef Innovator of the Year.

The award comes from the Beef Checkoff Program, and recognizes one foodservice operator every year that exhibits leadership and innovation in beef menuing and promotion. Owners Dale and Melodie Zimmerman and the restaurant`s head chef received the award in Florida earlier this month.

Two members of the National Weather Service in Bismarck received a Gold Medal from the United States Deputy Secretary of Commerce. John Paul Martin and Joshua Scheck were awarded for their work in customer service.

The Water Treatment Plant improvement project at the Tesoro Refinery in Mandan was recognized with an engineering excellence award from the North Dakota chapter of the American Council of Engineering Companies.

Finally this week, the drive thru at the McDonalds on Main Street in Bismarck will be reopening on Tuesday. The dining room is still under renovation.
